What was the highlight of OYO 563 Mytown New York
Place is serviceable, but poor treatment at the start ruined the whole stay.
The place was not really a first choice for me, but the pool looked better than the other OYO option, so I went for it. I did not use the pool as much, but it was good to have it. Location is another good thing.
I am not a picky person, but the place and I started at rather a wrong foot. Flew in from abroad around 5 AM. I messaged OYO NY the night, and they said early check in is not assured but they'd see what they can do. Understandable. But it would have been better if they'd just pointedly say they couldn't accommodate me so I could go directly to another place where I could rest from the trip. Anyway, I spent money to get to the hotel, willing to pay early check in fee. Got there around 6 AM. The receptionist asked me to wait. TAKE NOTE: They don't have a sofa or a proper receiving area. All they have are 3 high chairs without backrest, made of metal, quite cold to sit in because of the air conditioning, in front of a ledge that is stuck too high on the wall. So waiting soon becomes uncomfortable. I tried catching some sleep, but even if I slumped on the ledge, it was too uncomfortable as I had to stretch my body too much just so I could have my arms on the plank for my head to rest on. That was fine. But I WAITED 2 HOURS and no update. I wondered how long did they need to see which rooms were available. Or if none, which I highly doubt, why did they not inform me about it so I could go somewhere much more fitting? Around 8 AM, as patient as I am, I went out to see if another lodging place was nearby. Unfortunately, there was none. I checked online and found 2 Sogo Hotels near each other only over a hundred meters away, near EDSA. So sleepy and tired me, with a big luggage and a backpack on my bag had to exit that unfriendly OYO place and walked towards the Sogo Hotels. Just a few steps from Sogo though was Astrotel. I got in quickly as I really just wanted to sleep. Went back to OYO at 2, rested and bathed. My OYO room was quite small. No table. TV did not work. Air conditioner did not work. Soap dish blocked a quarter of the sink space. Tissue holder was where shower water directly falls. Whole place feels/looks mechanical & carceral.
